It is my sincere hope that when all this is over we’ll look back and chuckle nervously, that this song will be like all those songs about quarantine, relevant only in their time and place of origin. It’s kind of hard to imagine things getting better right now, to imagine a world without devious technocratic siloing of ideas, dopamine addiction, brazen oligarchy, and paramilitary forces being turned loose on American citizens, where left and right are matters of policy and free debate not fucking identities and bona fides, where all the billionaires go back to being plucky libertarians uninterested in national politics and not nihilistic death-cult authoritarians with mommy issues or better yet actually live that effective altruism stuff they used to be on about back when it was mosquito nets and not facial recognition and overthrowing the judiciary. This all seems unlikely but it is my hope nonetheless.
they’re coming ‘round
howling #unalivethealgorithm
it’s about ten miles from here
to the data center & I
thought I’d tag along
‘cause you were there
didn’t know it was such a long
walk through all the cops,
Guardsmen, fire houses, police dogs
they’re on our screens
howling #glorytothenewinfanta
the blessed child bride,
queen consort to the oligarch usher in
a global sphere
where there’s no fear
only anxiety to be near
the power
only few may wield
and you yield?
honey, do you yield?
there’s stool pigeons on the wires now
there’s tin soldiers on our street
hold me close behind the cupboard now
we’ll scavenge everything we need
quietly wait out the firestorm
the cure is worse than the disease
the thing about lies
is they bury you alive
and once you’re sick
it’s far too late, it’s far too late
for the vaccine
should’ve had the vaccine
they will talk, but none will listen
their vacant eyes, something like fear
die a hero or live long enough
for your bullshit to catch up
and when they’re gone
we’ll still be here.
I really love this one. Your vocals stand out more in this song than I’ve heard before.
